The Dane's ears ask for a thorough grooming. Make sure no water gets in there while bathing your dog. Use a soft cloth to dry the Dane's ears. Clean them weekly with alcohol-based products. It is recommended to introduce a pet to this procedure gradually while it is a puppy. It usually helps to avoid future problems and ease the process of grooming Great Danes.

Feeding Great Danes is close to a science. Great Dane breeders and owners should be aware of the basics of canine nutrition. It is also important to know specifics of the breed. The Great Dane is very small at birth. However, it grows rapidly in the first weeks, which demands special attention on the part of the owner. Feeding puppies high protein food is out of the question. Ratio should consist of low fat and low calcium products to avoid joint problems. Since the breed is prone to bloat, do not feed your puppy from low standing dishes. Instead, use props and regulate the prop level in accord with the height of the puppy. Keep in mind that exercising a puppy after a meal can lead to bloat.

Most novices in the breed wonder what amount of exercise the Great Dane needs. As a rule, Great Danes are OK with a few 30-minute walks a day. A long walk, jogging, and agility are all good exercise for them. Generally, the amount of exercise your dog needs depends on its age, health condition, and other factors. Puppies are usually more active than adult dogs. As the dog ages, it tends to become a coach potato. Do not force it out from its favorite place (coach, a neat corner in the back yard, etc.). You'd rather try to involve it in activities the dog likes. It may be agility, obedience, and other sports. The main thing to bear in mind is that Great Danes should enjoy their daily exercise.

Great Danes Breeders - The ancestors of Great Danes are believed to have originated in Tibet. They were used to manage cattle and helped people hunt. The first drawings of such dogs are dated as far back as the 12th century BC. Bit by bit, the dogs spread across Europe. The Romans are known to have dealt with the ancestors of Great Danes. They used them as war and guard dogs.

In the medieval, the dogs were rather common in Europe. Crosses of Mastiffs with other dogs resulted in the production of the dogs used mainly in hunting. They were often referred to as German Mastiffs. They were good in hunting the wild boar. The dogs had to be strong and endurable. Meanwhile, they had to have a pleasing appearance. As a matter of fact, they were often around the noble and were used to guard the castles of the royalty.

Great Danes Pictures - Great Danes originated in Germany around 400 years ago. They were meant to hunt a wild boar. Naturally enough the Dane's great size allows some to use the animal as a guard dog. Contrary to some people's conceptions, the Great Dane is not aggressive. Despite the fact that they are called Danes in English, they did not originate in Denmark. The Great Dane breed of today originated in Germany. There is also some evidence that similar dogs lived in ancient Rome and Greece. It is said that Asiatic people invaded part of Germany in 407 A.D. and introduced a mastiff-like dog. Germans then crossed this dog with the Irish Wolfhound and, some believe, the Mastiff. They were used for such tasks as tracking, watchdog and carting.
